Concept House I (in progress)

The compelling ethical and regulatory requirements to design buildings with reduced energy needs drives all of our current work.  In an effort to consolidate energy efficiency strategies with design aesthetics, comfort and economy, this Concept House I takes a familiar form in American architecture as a starting point. Future posts will explore this and other concept houses at a detailed level leading to construction costs.

The ubiquitous split-level ranch is an economical way to enclose space. The Concept House I explores this familiar house form and its potential for energy efficiency, economy and architectural interest.

The split-level offers, within its economical form, opportunities for a combination of compact and expansive space, e.g. two-story living room.
